well... i went for it... i decided to open an Etsy shop to try and sell my banners. i love crafting and have time to do it {yeay nap time!}, so it's worth a shot right?

the crafty beast: paint swirl ornaments

this was such a fun, easy project to do with the wild man... kept his attention and will make great gifts for the grandparents!

 

the ornaments are $0.99each at michaels {don't worry, they are plastic ;)}, and at the time i bought them they were an additional 50% off... i used paint i already had so this project was next to nothing!

 

...mix a little bit of water with the paint {makes it easier to swirl inside the ornament}

...pour desired amount of each color into each ornament

...cover the open tops with tape

...and let them have fun!

 

 ... a little unsure of it at first

... one thing i wish i had done was add a marble to each of the ornaments for sound to make them even more entertaining

 

... let dry upside down {to let the extra paint drip} over night

 

... once dry i added his initials and the year

a homemade halloween

 Happy Halloween! this year i spent entirely way too much time and thought into what/who Hunter should be for his first Halloween. every costume in the store was way too cutesy for a boy {in my opinion}, which was also our problem trying to decide on a theme for his room before he was born. no baby animals or disney characters for the Jelovich household! {well until he's old enough to pick them out on his own ;)} now, if i had a girl it would be a whole different story... cute baby animals, tiaras, headbands and bows overload! 

one day as we were playing, Wild Man pulled out a Spartan hat that his Grandma Jelovich gave him from Leavenworth and immediately the light bulb went off. a Spartan warrior! perfect. and i knew Zach would totally approve so even better. the whole costume was pretty easy to make and was about $10 total. the pleated skirt was made from felt {5 sheets for $1}, i hand sewed them onto a pair of brown pants that were too short but still fit him in the waist. the cape is made from an old t-shirt and sewn onto a plain white onesie from Old Navy {$6}. i had a hard time finding a plain hat {the hat from Grandma Jelovich is way too big still} so my mom just knitted one up one day with yarn she already had. i made the mohawk out of more felt and sewed it onto the hat. the shoes we already had and went perfectly. i made a shield out of cardboard covered in felt {felt = a moms best friend} but didn't like how it turned out. i was so excited that it turned out exactly how i had pictured it, minus the shield, and so far it's been a big hit! :)

homemade thank you gifts {in mason jars}

we have the. best. neighbors. ever. they watch our house and take care of our dogs when we're out of town, mow our lawn when Zach is away, give us great hand me down toys and clothes for hunter, offer free babysitting, and are just all around great friends. we will definitely miss them. so to say thank you I made them a few homemade treats.

 

since I usually always have baked goods in the house when they come over I made two 'cookies in a jar' mixes. you can find the recipe here {i made one with nuts and one without} 

I also made a homemade brown sugar body scrub with vitamin e and honey. I love this stuff and will definitely have to make some for myself when I get settled on the west coast. the only thing I will do differently for this is use a smaller jar, to fill a quart size jar it took three of these recipes.

and for their cute little girl Evie, I got a princess coloring book and some giant crayons. 

 

what was really great about this project was that for the most part it was all things we had around the house already. the only things I had to buy were the coloring book and crayons {under $4 for both} and the mason jars since I already packed the ones I had {pack of 12 1-quart jars for $10} I am mason jar obsessed lately so the rest will go to use soon... guess what everyone is getting for Christmas this year??? ;)
